Montessori Philosophy and Educational Theory
Designed to give the student a thorough grounding in Montessori theory and an understanding of its practical application. The role of environment, freedom, movement, discipline, sensitive periods, and precepts of order are examined in terms of a total methodology.
Child Development/Psychology Designed to give the student greater insight into child behavior and democratic techniques for the development of a healthy self-discipline in children. Emphasis on practical psychology and early child development. Child development and discipline theory is explored as developed by Dreikurs, Bruner, Kohlburg, Erikson, Bowlby, Piaget, as well as Montessori. Moral development is covered as well.
Observation
Designed to develop the observational techniques required of the Montessori practitioner. Emphasis placed on the relation of theory to practice in meeting individual needs.
Practical Life / Peace Education
The student becomes versed in how to help children develop self-reliance, concentration, hand-eye coordination and small muscle maturation. Emphasis is placed on
